The eco habitat

An eco-habitat is a full-featured settlement in which human activities are harmlessly integrated into the natural world in a way that is supportive of healthy human development and can be successfully continued into the indefinite future.

Saptapatha:
Strands of sustainability

We created a framework called Saptapatha: The seven strands of sustainability with an intent to measure the impact of the eco-habitats.

Earth, People, Shelter, Water, Air, Food, and Energy are the central strands that we focus on to enable sustainable living. Each one of these is an important part of what Organo Damargidda embodies. Each strand by itself is a powerhouse but entwined they form the basis of a growing sustainable community that believes in living in sync with nature.

The
permaculture
way

What is permaculture?permaculture is basically an approach to growing food and livestock in such a way that it treats the entire system as one self- sustained and self-contained unit and uses principles found in nature to createharmonious sustainable and productive, living environments. the elements of permaculture depend on as well as support each other.

Permaculturists keenly observe the natural processes going around them and learn from them.

Ethos of permaculture:
1. Care for the earth. it is important to keep the planet healthy for everyone’s survival
2. Care for its people. allow people to take what they need to survive.
3. Fair share. take only what you need and give back the surplus. this includes maintaining the nutrient cycle by returning waste products into the system.

Turning waste into resources

The
happiness
pyramid

Psychologist Abraham Maslow saw that human beings could be said to have essentially five different kinds of need: on the one hand, the psychological or what one could term, without any mysticism being meant by the word, the spiritual and on the other, the material. For Maslow, we all start with a set of utterly non-negotiable and basic physiological needs, for food, water, warmth and rest.

In addition, we have urgent safety needs for bodily security and protection from attack. but then we start to enter the spiritual domain.  We need belongingness and love. We need friends and lovers, we need esteem and respect. and lastly, and most grandly, we are driven by what Maslow called – in a now legendary term – an urge for self- actualization: a vast, touchingly nebulous and yet hugely apt concept involving what Maslow described as ‘living accordingto one’s full potential’ and becoming who we really are.

Foraging
in
your frontyard

What is Foraging?
Foraging essentially means eating unfarmed, uncultivated naturally grown food. it involves identifying and gathering edible berries, weeds, fruits, and flowers that grow in the wild and incorporating them into your diet.Foraging requires a keen sense of observation, a good knowledge of plants and weeds, and a reasonable amount of caution to differentiate between a toxic and a non-toxic species.

Foraging with family.
Foraging is a great means of connecting with the land and soil. it brings you close to your immediate ecosystem and you learn to see the world around you with a different lens altogether. You become more conscious of your environment and observe things that were right in front of you but were not visible to you earlier. your senses become sharper as you learn to identify the plants by keen observation of their leaves, fruits, and flowers and also find out how variedly they can be used in your food.
