Interior Design Thinking at Organo Depalle

Author: Menna Murugappan, Co-Author: Alekhya Akinapally

When we began work on the interiors of the Organo Depalle home, we didn’t start with aesthetics. We started with habits.

Where does the day begin? Where does it slow down? Where does it pause, and where does it flow?

The home sits amidst a kitchen garden, an outdoor dining area, and a backyard that opens into a food forest. There’s a terrace that pulls you outside in the evenings, and light that shifts beautifully throughout the day. But for us as interior designers, the real work was inside—shaping the spaces where people cook, unwind, care for their families, or simply take a breath between tasks.

Every room was designed through the lens of use.

Not just who enters, but how they feel when they do.

A space that is defined not just by what it holds, but by how it is used.

We use a framework we call the 4Qs:

  1. Livability – Can you move through space naturally? Does it support your daily rituals?
  2. Constructability – Is the design practical to build, clear in intent, and efficient to execute?
  3. Maintainability – Will it stand up to real life—dust, kids, spills, seasons?
  4. Sustainability – Are we choosing materials and methods that respect time, energy, and the planet?

The space is considered to carry Outdoor bath areas that transition gently from shared to private.

In this home, that meant a utility area that actually works as an extension of the kitchen, not an afterthought. It meant a living area that invites conversation, bathrooms that breathe, an outdoor bath area for Saturday snanam, and a bedroom that transitions gently from shared to private. It meant spaces that anticipate human need, and stay out of the way when they’re not needed.

Our aim wasn’t to impress. It was to support—to quietly make life easier, lighter, better.

This is what thoughtful interior design can do: bring comfort, clarity, and calm into everyday life.

The space that is Cozy, Relaxed, Aesthetic & Minimal.
