A classic home with a contemporary spin

Priyanka & Kunal Kabra
April 19, 2023
The Kabras, a multi-generational family with diverse tastes and lifestyles, found their ideal home at Organo Kandawada. The design blends classical and contemporary styles, satisfying the older generation's elegance and the young couple's modern sensibilities. The house is both high-end and easy to maintain, enabling quality family time without housekeeping hassles.

Kunal and Priyanka share a journey that goes back to their childhood. Growing up in close-knit families, their early years were spent surrounded by love and tradition, deeply ingraining in them a respect for family and lineage. It was these shared values that eventually brought them together.

Kunal, the ambitious and outgoing one, always dreamt of owning a business. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident even during his school years when he would often come up with innovative ideas to solve problems. As he grew older, he pursued his passion by launching a thriving business that reflects his innovative mindset and hard work.

Priyanka, on the other hand, was always the creative soul. An avid reader, she found joy in the little things in life and was drawn towards preserving memories and family heirlooms. When she met Kunal, she was fascinated by his dynamism and drive, and together, they formed a partnership that complemented each other perfectly.

After their marriage and move to Hyderabad, they welcomed their son into the world.Becoming parents opened up a whole new world for them. Handling the responsibilities of parenthood and maintaining their bustling social lives, they continued to stay rooted to their traditions and family values.

“Their entertainment styles are distinct. They are extremely happy with the entertainment deck on the second floor; they love the rooftop terrace, the card table, the lounge, the statement bar.”

Family Life

Navigating the exciting journey of parenting their 8-month-old baby, their routines revolve around their son, with a full-time domestic help in residence. They are socially active, especially during the weekends. The Kabras live as a joint family with three generations in one home. Hugely family oriented, their home is the centre of their extended families. They frequently host get-togethers, parties, engagements, wedding functions and gatherings for their extended families. The senior Kabras have always had an active social life and continue to do so. Well-travelled and well-heeled, their refined tastes reflect in the décor of their home.  As a family, they’re big on preserving their past lineage and have a collecting of stunning memorabilia, which they’re proud of inheriting, like their first telephone, their first typewriter and other artefacts.

While the senior Kabras want to put their feet up, relax and live life on a slow track, Priyanka and Kunal are in an active space with a growing family personally and a thriving business, on the work front.

“As a family, they’re big on preserving their past lineage and have a collecting of stunning memorabilia, which they’re proud of inheriting, like their first telephone, their first typewriter and other artefacts. Their home has dedicated spaces to showcase family memorabilia and objet d’arts.”

Discovery of Kandawada

Their desire for a space that reflected their unique blend of modern lifestyle and love for tradition led them to Kandawada. They sought a home that could accommodate their young family, respect their lineage, and offer opportunities for relaxation and socialization, which they found in the design and philosophy of Kandawada. This new home came to symbolize a continuation of their journey together, providing a space where they could nurture their son, carry on their traditions, and build a future that echoed their values.

Originally,Kunal and Priyanka considered Kandawada as a potential weekend home. However, after consultations with the Organo design team, they began to envisage a different lifestyle. The design of Kandawada offered opportunities for both generations to enjoy their desired pace of life - relaxation for the senior Kabras and an active lifestyle for Kunal and Priyanka. The plan evolved into the parents staying at Kandawada during weekdays and the young couple visiting with their son on weekends. Additionally, they liked the idea of occasionally swapping places, with the seniors visiting their city home on weekends. This dual-location lifestyle allowed the family to enjoy the best of both worlds -the tranquility of Kandawada and the bustling city life.

“So, the ground floor speaks the combined language of both the older and younger generations where we have used rich traditional materials like the flooring in black marble but we have combined them together to give a contemporary twist and easy to maintain design style.”
